The Unveiling of Carla the Crane

Our Armoured Fighting Vehicles Facilities Program – Stage 1 Puckapunyal Military Area project recently held a ‘Name the Crane’ competition with the local Puckapunyal Primary School.

Students from grades 1 to 6 were asked to name the crane, provide a reason for selection, and give a fun fact about construction.

Names were put to vote, with Mia taking out the win with ‘Carla the Crane’. “Carla means strong woman, so it fits perfectly”. Mia also provided a fun fact, sharing that “World War II encouraged women to join the Construction Industry”.

As a company that supports and encourages female employment in the Construction Industry, with 19% female employees, this name resonated with us the most. A huge congratulations to Mia!

Last Friday, the crane was erected along with a sign that will stay up for the duration of the crane. Defence personnel, students, teachers, and parents joined our team onsite to watch the tower crane and name plaque go up.

There were some great entries and the team thoroughly enjoyed reading through the submissions.

Thanks to the Puckapunyal Primary School for participating.
