Spotlight on Danny Hammon

An Interview with Danny Hammon, St Hilliers’ Pre-Construction Manager:

What is your role and area of specialty?
As St Hilliers’ Pre-Construction Manager, I oversee people and partnerships. I am responsible for nurturing client relationships and searching for any potential work opportunities through various portals. I mentor our team of Cadets as they enter the industry and oversee their growth and construction experience. Days vary significantly within the pre-con team due to the variance of new tender opportunities starting up and closing, but I love the diversity and challenge of the role.

How long have you been in the industry, and what is your background?
In total, I’ve been in the industry for just over 13 years! After completing a carpentry apprenticeship at 29 years of age, I worked on the tools for a few years before transitioning into an office-based role doing Contract Admin/ Project Management work. Within a 14-month period, I transitioned to ‘Regional Manager of Central Qld’ before progressing into the role of ‘Seniors Living Development Manager’ which I held for 6 years before joining St Hilliers as a ‘Pre-Construction Manager’.

What is your career highlight?
During my time as ‘Seniors Living Manager’, I was fortunate enough to lead our clients on international study tours exploring different models of care around the world. We toured Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, and the UK across 2 separate trips over a 4-week period, learnings of which we would bring back and incorporate into our clients’ designs. On the back of these tours, I was asked to regularly present at seniors living conferences around the country giving my thoughts and views on the sector from the eyes of a builder, it was very rewarding.

What are your goals/ plans for the future?
I aim to see St Hilliers become the builder of choice for negotiated collaborative contracting as well as a leading contractor in the Seniors Living sector. While I oversee our business development, I am passionate about creating pathways for our young cadets to learn and grow in the industry and look forward to continuing my work alongside our talented young team of students.

We asked Isabella Allen, a Cadet to describe Danny:
Danny is awesome to work with, and an amazing mentor! Always cool, calm, and collected, he makes an effort to ensure that everyone feels welcomed and supported at St Hilliers.
