Spotlight on Asiri Joseph

An Interview with Asiri Joseph, a St Hilliers Design Manager:

What is your role and area of specialty?

While I started work with St Hilliers as a Senior Project Engineer, an internal opportunity recently presented for a Design Manager. I was successful in my application and am currently transitioning between roles. As a design manager, I assist in coordinating all design matters relating to a project to ensure a smooth and timely delivery within the allocated budget. While changing to a different position can be daunting, I have the support of my existing team and a familiar environment to learn in.

How long have you been in the industry, and what is your background?

I entered the industry in 2012, after studying my Bachelors in Construction Management. After spending almost 7 years with Lendlease on large scale health, defence, airport and development projects, I moved to St Hilliers, where my focus is on large and small-scale defence, health and fuels projects.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Working closely with my team to achieve project milestones, my role sees me engaging with various professions in the industry, including consultants, subcontractors, management, clients, councils, and government authorities. Coordinating logistics, my team engages our network to mitigate risk and ensure projects are tracking efficiently.

What is your career highlight?

Over the last 4 years with St Hilliers, my highlight would have to be the great people that I get to work with and learn from each day. Being surrounded by such a fun and talented team motivates me to continue to grow my own skillset.

What are your goals/ plans for the future?

I hope to continue building upon my design management skills and experiences. Beyond my role, I want to help to maintain positive work culture and promote well-being across our company. Construction can be tough, but a supportive team can make all the difference!

We asked Matt Cece, Construction Manager, how he would describe Asiri:

Asiri is a team player with an incredible work ethic! I can always count on him to get the job done. He has a fantastic attitude, keeps the office energised and is an asset to our company.

Congratulations on your new role, Asiri!
