The existing 2nd Commando Regiment (2 CDO Regt) Special Reconnaissance Vehicles and Long Range Patrol Vehicles housed within the Tobruk Lines precinct at Holsworthy Barracks needed to be replaced with larger SOV as part of Defence’s overall REDFIN Project. Consequently, additional space and storage facilities was required to be provided within Tobruk Lines at Holsworthy Barracks to support the new vehicles.
The project provided functional and flexible purpose-built SOV facilities and improved infrastructure at Holsworthy Barracks. This enabled 2 CDO Regt to maintain and develop its operational capability efficiently and effectively. It also delivered a sustainable outcome for the Defence Estate by maximising adaptive reuse of existing facilities, consolidating buildings and functions, and extending and upgrading existing infrastructure.
The project involved the construction of new buildings and the reconfiguration and refurbishment of existing facilities at Holsworthy Barracks including but not limited to the following:

  • Construction of a new enclosed vehicle hangar and covered enclosure to house new SOV;
  • Refurbishment and upgrading of two existing open vehicle storage shelters (buildings T092 and T096) to house new SOV;
  • Provision of additional storage areas to the vehicle hangar and upgraded shelters to store vehicle-related assemblies, equipment, spare parts and tyres;
  • Refurbishment of the existing vehicle loading ramp to accommodate a larger hydraulic dock leveller to suit the SOV;
  • Civil works, demolition of redundant pavements and infrastructure as designated in the Contract.
