Mates helping mates

St Hilliers’ WA team has recently engaged Mates in Construction to perform General Awareness Training at our RAAF Base Pearce Fire Upgrade project.

Our team learnt a lot about suicide prevention and Mates helping Mates. It was gut-wrenching to hear that the industry loses a construction worker every second day to suicide.

St Hilliers and our subcontractors are committed to ensuring that we put the right measures in place to assist in reducing this number and to respond to any changes in behaviours that may suggest a fellow work colleague, friend or family member needs help.

However, we acknowledge that there is still a lot more work to be done to ensure that the construction industry is aligned with the goals of reducing the tragically high rates of suicide.

We are grateful to Mates in Construction for taking the time out to teach us some invaluable lessons regarding mental health and prevention while raising awareness for this issue.
