Implementing new technology in Puckapunyal

The team at our Puckapunyal project site are seeing the world of construction through a new lens. In collaboration with CAF Consulting, St Hilliers has implemented a virtual reality, simulated experience as well as 3d scanning using UAV Lidar Surveys to provide whole of works progression updates.

Specialist photography equipment (3D camera and drones) are being used to scan each individual work area during construction. The images are then uploaded into a virtual reality program and can be accessed using a VR-compatible computer and headset located in the main site office. Updated 3D models in a VR environment allow the client, project team, subcontractors, and the greater business to watch the project unfold remotely.

In addition to this, St Hilliers is implementing point cloud scanning for ‘as constructed’ information as well as 360-degree walkthroughs of the works to mitigate the requirement for stakeholders to come to site in the new Covid environment we are living in.

This is an innovation that we are excited to explore further and execute across more of our projects.
