St Hilliers undertook the design and construction of Mondrian, which was the third stage of the mixed-use redevelopment of the former Chubb industrial site at Waterloo. Mondrian comprises 137 units in four slim line buildings, ranging in height from four to six levels plus attic, separated by, ‘finger’ courtyards.
Environmentally sustainable development principles have been embraced in the development with the four buildings orientated towards the north. Most apartments have north-facing living areas with balconies and/or courtyards and enclosed access galleries to the south. Apartments also extend the full width of the building for cross-flow ventilation eliminating the need for airconditioning. Vertical blades, sun screens and concrete overhangs also assist with climate control.
