The project is split into two stages.
Stage 1: Demolition of Airmen’s Mess Building and Construction of the New Townsville Health Centre (THC). This stage involves the demolition of the Airmen’s Mess Building that current resides on the site selected for the new THC. On completion of the demolition the new THC will be constructed and will provide the following functional areas:
- Dental Services
- Entry Areas
- General Areas
- Inpatient Unit
- Mental Health
- Plant & Equipment Rooms
- Primary Care Units
- Accessways and Vehicle Parking
The scope includes establishing the site compound, demountable, demolition of existing infrastructure as nominated, isolate / divert / relocate existing services infrastructure to allow for construction of the new facility and associated civil and infrastructure site works. This follows on to the construction of the new THC facility as documented, installation of new services and connection to the existing network and all supply & installation of all nominated fixtures fittings and equipment (FFE).
Stage 2: Demolition of Existing THC
Demolition of the existing THC building will occur following decant of people and equipment to the new THC.
There will be a 4-week duration between the completion of Stage 1 and commencement of stage 2 to allow for decanting and transitional activities between the existing and new.
The scope includes the decanting, isolation & termination of existing services and make safe for demolition, identification and removal of hazardous materials. The demolition of the existing structure then follows, with the removal of foundations, capping of inground services / conduits and levelling the site and reseeding area.
