Project A9015 AFV Facilities Program – Stage 1 Works Package 1: Puckapunyal Military Area involves the construction of new facilities and adaptive reuse of existing facilities to support the introduction of the new AFV’s, including:

  • School of Armour (SoARMD) Driver and Servicing Wing

• Building 1972 – New three-storey Armoured Vehicle Simulation Site (AVSS) Simulation Centre with workshops, offices, simulation training rooms, classrooms, briefing rooms, reconfigurable lecture theatre, breakout spaces, comms room, store room, outdoor BBQ area, carpark, and landscaping;
• Building 1971 – new six bay driver and servicing hangar including comms room, ablutions, exhaust and instructor training station. One bay is to include a ventilated servicing pit;
• Building 1684 and 1685 – refurbishment and installation of new training computer stations including comms, equipment and furniture;
• Building 20 – removal of redundant mechanical pipework and demolition works. Installation of new training computer stations including comms, equipment and furniture;
• Building 23 – refurbishment of two floor office area with new shared offices, breakout rooms and meeting room. Extension of hangar wall to create total of 20 vehicle bays. 100 new Personnel Equipment Cages (PEC) locker storage on ground floor in vehicle hangar. Removal of 2 x 5,000L underground waste oil tanks. Remediation and back-filling of removed tanks, filling and capping pipelines. (Note, the current maintenance capability in Building 23 is being moved to Building 764);
• Building 705 and 706 – removal of internal portable buildings and tilt panel hangar doors. Installation of new storeroom, comms room (Building 706 only), and roller doors plus new overhead power droppers
and compressed air;
• Building 1973 – new ablutions block with toilets and showers, 85 Personnel Equipment Cages (PEC) lockers and cleaners’ room;
• Building 1684 and 1685 – refurbishment and installation of new training computer stations including networking and power), LCD screens and furniture; and
• Potential Pre-Agreed Variation – Adaptive reuse of Building 21 for the tactics and Comms Wing classrooms.

  • School of Armour (SoARMD) Gunnery Wing

• Building 1065 – Demolish roller doors and external walls for seven eastern bays. Widen and increase height of doors for seven eastern bays and mechanical works. New tilt-panel doors to be installed. Installation of new training computer stations (including networking and power), LCD screens and furniture for all 10 gunnery bays. Temporary structural support during structural works to ensure Level 1 maintains operation. Clearing of vegetation and levelling ground for increased viewing range from Gunnery. New pavement hardstand area out front of gunnery for manoeuvring training rigs.

  • School of Armour Range Area

• Construction of a new wash point facility – new six bay A-vehicle (Armoured-vehicle) wash area hardstand with high pressure lances, low pressure hoses and wet/dry vacuum points. New three lane raised platform for B-vehicle (trucks and cars) washing. Two levels of standing area on platform for high and low-level cleaning with high pressure lances, low pressure hoses and wet/dry vacuum points;
• Building 1970 – new pump building with ablutions/storage/pump building, beaching pit, water reuse tank and vehicle invert ramps; and
• Potential Pre-Agreed Variation – Driver Training Area. Refurbishment of gravel roads, obstacle hardening, new knife edges and turnouts.

  • Joint Logistics Unit – Victoria

• Building 764 – demolition of eastern offices, compressor room, canvas workshop and motor workshop bays. Removal of equipment from western awning. Enclosing western awning and levelling slab to create new canvas workshop, small motor workshop and welding workshop. Refurbishment of seven existing eastern vehicle bays. Construction of nine new vehicle bays. New POL and compressed air (from relocated compressor) to all new and refurbed vehicle bays. New office and plant building. New roller doors to nine new vehicle bays. Three new cranes for new nine vehicle bays. New 860m2 overflow gravel carpark.

  • Basewide

• Provision of new HV substation; and
• Extension of existing HV Ring Main.
